WOTW: TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph

Now…. we’ve seen TAG Heuer do some pretty awesome things over the last few years, but nothing quite comes close to the Carrera Calibre 16 41mm Blue watch, built with a powerful movement and equipped with an elegant trio of chronograph counters for recording all those personal bests with. Come take a look…

The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph. It’s arrived and we’ve fallen in love with it. Having looked at some of the Swiss company’s latest innovations over the last few years, along with various updates to their most popular collections – it feels like TAG are working towards catering for a somewhat younger audience. The designs are vibrant and fresh – their impeccable movements forever growing in sophistication. Last year we saw the birth of the Carrera Heuer-01 from the Carrera range and the Link and Aquaracer collection also had a makeover. It’s safe to say that their most recent creations are particularly attractive. Both the black and the blue versions of the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 watch are done in good taste, seen as these versatile colours that will look smart no matter what outfit they’re matched with. With subtle vintage-inspired aesthetics, traditional Swiss watch manufacture is present in some ways, but it’s not in your face. The undertones are suggestive but not forced, leaving more room for a sporty feel to come through.

If we’re talking specifications then this watch promises everything that it should do. No more and certainly no less. Whether dressed for business or dressed casually, the physique of this TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Blue watch is chiselled and all there on the masculine front. The blue sunray brushed dial with a matching blue ceramic polished tachymeter fixed bezel, is enhanced by red accents that donate a retro-inspired look to the design. Polished steel push pieces and a crown at 3 o’clock match the solid 43mm case. It houses the Swiss-made TAG Heuer Calibre 16 self winding movement with rapid date correction at its centre. If you’re wanting to know if you can take the watch off and come back to it later without worrying about whether it’s kept perfect time – then yes, you can. A 42 hour power reserve makes sure of this, but then again – why would you want to take it off for any longer than that?!

The blue sunray brushed second indicator, hour counter and minute counter are equipped with rhodium plated polished hands, just like the applied numerals and central hands however, the latter have been treated with a nice coating of Super-LumiNova, to assist time-reading in the dark. If you wanted to take a quick dip in the pool, the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 would be happy to assist you, seen as the casing has been integrated with 100 meter water resistant capabilities. Together with a sapphire crystal glass lens, both the dial and the internally-fitted engine are out of harms way, so there’d be very little you couldn’t do with this killer chronograph strapped to the wrist.
