If you have followed Oris’ growth and over the years, their global breakthroughs that have put beautiful high-performance timepieces on the wrists of dedicated watch fanatics – you’ll be familiar with the Aquis watch collection and its links with marine life, conservation and environmental causes. Watches from this collection highlight global issues like pollution, chemical waste and the carelessness of littering, but that’s not all that Oris want to reiterate in this limited edition model. They also want to put the handsome aesthetics of this watch under the spotlight, whilst re-connecting with their roots and celebrating the natural beauty that surrounds their HQ’s in Holstein. Switzerland. Intrigued? Read on!

Oris’ The Source Of Life Limited Edition Watch is a timepiece that will resonate with any Oris fan, any lover of a classic sports watch or an enthusiastic diver, not to mention those who love what the brand are about – sustainability and environmental awareness. Oris anchor their message into the design of this limited edition timepiece good and proper, with a limited edition number engraved onto the caseback– we’ll talk a little more about the significance of this number as we delve deeper into the watch’s spec. But primarily, Oris took inspiration from the River Rhine during the making of this innovative limited edition. By trying the timepiece on, you accept an invitation into the world of Oris and their philosophical views about caring for the world’s water resources.

The Rhine starts in the Swiss Alps and runs through Holstein, Oris’ home for over 100 years. It ends at the North Sea of Rotterdam having passed through six countries spanning a length of 1232km. The name of the feeder brook which runs adjacent to the Oris workshops called Orisbach, has become adopted by the manufacture – a name which has now become globally associated with luxury wristwatches if not for the name of the company’s origins. Whether you knew this fact or not, you’ll agree that this link is very apt for the limited edition watch. The Rhine was badly polluted from a chemical spill back in the 1980’s and it took huge efforts from the Rhine Action Programme to clean it up, thus the importance of caring and maintaining it has never felt more prominent.

So that’s the low-down on the inspiration for the watch and Oris’ message behind it. Now to admire the timepiece for its charm and heart-stopping good looks. The case width of the watch is 43.3mm and features bolted on crown guards and a thick bezel, which introduces a rugged stainless steel link bracelet with security folding clasp and extendable buckle for wearing on top of diving gear. The matte grey tungsten bezel ring is perfectly circular and thus flows like the river itself, into the breath-taking shades of the sunburst blue-grey dial, reflecting the colours of the water. A date ring inside the baton hour track offers something refreshing from other watches within the Aquis watch collection.

The engraved picture of the lake on the back of the stainless steel case maps out its serpentine route, meandering through the six countries to its mouth at the North Sea. It almost acts as a metaphor for Oris’ journey since the Maison’s workshops opened a century ago. The 2343 models made for this limited edition series, is a nod to the height of the Tomasee – a lake in the Alps where the River Rhine originates. Additional features that will serve you well whilst wearing the thought-provoking Oris Aquis The Source Of Life Limited Edition watch, include 300 meter water resistant capabilities and a sapphire crystal glass lens, which forms the front of the dial face.

It’s easy to lose the significance of a limited edition watch since so many are being produced these days, however Oris have made sure to integrate a number of aesthetical qualities and innovative features that set this timepiece aside from any other Oris Aquis watch within the collection, not to mention other watches on the luxury market today.
