Adorn Your Wrist With The Chanel CODE COCO Watch

Three decades after the creation of its first timepiece, Premiére, Chanel’s Swiss Made watches continue to make their mark on the world of exquisite timepieces. Launched during October’s Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018, the stylish Chanel CODE COCO watch takes inspiration from the iconic Mademoiselle clasp that adorns the revered 2.55 quilted calf leather handbag, marrying incredible watchmaking with exquisite jewellery design.

Crafted from steel, the CODE COCO is a rectangular watch sized at 38.1 mm in height and 21.5 mm in width, and features either a steel or diamond-set rounded-corner rectangular bezel that’s fully integrated into the wrap-around steel bracelet. The design is evocative of Chanel’s famed quilted motif, which has been a symbol of the house since 1955.

According to fashion legend, the idea for the quilting — which today is synonymous with Chanel — came from the quilted jackets of equestrians, a sport that would go on to inspire the haute couture house’s founder Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in myriad ways.

The silvery glimmer of the watchstrap contrasts nicely with the solid black lacquered dial, drawing enviable stares wherever you go. The watch face is divided in half by the cylindrical Mademoiselle clasp, which turns horizontally to lock the wrap-around bracelet in place.

The top half of the CODE COCO dial houses a single 0.05 carat princess cut diamond (that’s square-shaped for those not versed in gemstone cuts) that sparkles brightly against it’s solid black backdrop.

Below the iconic clasp sits the watch’s white, petite, baton-shaped hour and minute hands. “CHANEL” and “SWISS” lettering frames the top and bottom of this part of the watch face, reminding the wearer of the French heritage and Swiss mechanics of this unparalleled instrument.

Animating the CODE COCO is a high precision Swiss quartz movement that promises a battery life of three years on average. The watch is also rated water resistant to 30 metres, although we definitely recommend keeping it dry.

The combination of steel and diamonds makes the CODE COCO a bold yet sophisticated watch, while its modern design cues, which allow it to be both a timepiece and a jewellery piece, signal that this will surely transform into an enduring classic — much like Chanel itself.

The CODE COCO watch is available to purchase from Berry’s Jewellers now in two different versions: the ref. H5144 offer the all-steel bezel, while the ref. H5145 features the bezel set with 52 brilliant cut diamonds (for a total of 0.58 carats).
