OMEGA Seamaster Olympic Games Limited Edition Collection

If you love the Olympics but never seemed to be able to find the time to compete on the global stage, we have the next best thing for you. Presenting the vintage-inspired OMEGA Seamaster Olympic Games Limited Edition collection, comprised of five different individual models as well as one very special box set. Get ready to show your Olympic pride in Tokyo 2020, with a stylish wristwatch from one of the best in the business.

OMEGA has served as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games – both summer and winter – since the 1932 games in Los Angeles, California. Back then, OMEGA sent a lone Swiss watchmaker with 30 split-second chronographs for Games officials to use. These days, things are a lot more hi-tech, with a team of timekeeping professionals, supported by up to 450 tons of highly specialised equipment, responsible for ensuring ultimate accuracy and fairness in the global competition.

In spite of the proliferation of modern technology, however, the design of the new OMEGA Seamaster Olympic Games Limited Edition collection actually takes its inspiration from a more historic source. The OMEGA stopwatches from the Montreal and Innsbruck Olympic Games in 1976 to be exact (pictured above). As you can see, all 5 models in the new collection feature a similar dial, with sporty hands and bold hour markers on black, set in sharp contrast to the minute-track on a white outer circle.

Presented in a very wearable 39.5mm stainless steel case and paired with stylish, micro-perforated leather strap matching the colour of the dial highlights, the watches are exceptionally comfortable on the wrist. In addition to the central time display of hours and minutes, the domed black and white dial also features a contrasting pulse reader around its periphery. This is subtly separated into three 20-second timing intervals, allowing you to easily calculate your pulse beats-per-minute. Perfect for checking your performance after you make that sprint from the couch to the fridge and back again during a commercial break.

Although these limited-edition models have been created in celebration of OMEGA’s ongoing role as official timekeeper, all references to the actual Olympics are quite subtle. The only indicator on the dial side is the iconic Olympic rings just below 6 o’clock, in a colour matching the aforementioned 20-second intervals. The back side of the watch, meanwhile, features an anodized aluminium ring that has been inscribed with all known host cities and dates from OMEGA’s Olympic Games journey, from Los Angeles 1932 up to Los Angeles 2028.

Visible when you turn the watch over is the automatic Master Chronometer calibre 8800, an exceptional in-house movement from OMEGA. Offering a healthy 55-hour power reserve, it features a co-axial escapement and is Master Chronometer certified. Plus, it’s anti-magnetic, which means you don’t have to worry about magnetic fields interfering with its performance. The movement has been nicely decorated with Arabesque Geneva stripes, blackened screws and bevelled bridges.

Only 2,032 versions of each model have been created in the Seamaster Olympic Games Limited Edition collection, representing the year 2032, which will be OMEGA’s 100th year as Official Timekeeper. Each watch case is individually engraved on the side with its limited-edition number. In a final nod to the Olympics, the watches are offered in the five colours of the Olympic rings: blue, yellow, black, green and red, all of which are available to purchase from Berry’s now.

For the truly hardcore Olympic fans, there is also the option of purchasing a special Olympic Games Limited Edition set, which features five limited edition watches and a miniature last-lap bell, which has been crafted in the same Swiss foundry as the real Olympic bells. Limited to just 100 sets, the watches come in their own dedicated presentation box.
