Looking for a Swiss Made watch with a touch of Italian flair that will definitely turn heads wherever you go? We have just the thing: the multi-award-winning BULGARI Octo Finissimo series, comprising not one, not two but three world-record holding timepieces. Sounds pretty intriguing, right? Read on to learn more.
How thin is thin?
Back in 2014, Italian luxury brand BULGARI achieved the seemingly impossible, introducing a tourbillon equipped mechanical timepiece housed in a platinum case that measured just 5mm thick. Not only did the BULGARI Octo Finissimo Tourbillon crush the previous record for world’s thinnest tourbillon watch, it also took the title of world’s thinnest tourbillon movement, which uncased, measured just 1.95mm thick.
As you can imagine, the knowledge and skill required to pull off such a feat is truly exceptional, and the successful creation of the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon firmly established BULGARI as a brand to watch in the eyes of luxury watch connoisseurs. Suffice to say, they were not disappointed. In 2016, BULGARI followed up with the launch of the world’s thinnest Minute Repeater, presented in a distinctive sandblasted titanium case measuring a mere 6.85mm.

In 2017, BULGARI wowed luxury watch aficionados for a third time with the unveiling of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic, the world’s thinnest automatic wristwatch, with a thickness of just 5.15mm. In the same year, the Italian brand also unveiled a skeletonised version of the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, providing an unparalleled view into the inner workings of a world-record breaking mechanical movement.
Award Winning Watches
Each year in early November, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) ceremony takes place in Geneva. Referred to by insiders as the Oscars of the Watchmaking Industry, the GPHG brings together a selection of the year’s most innovative, advanced and creative timepieces under various prize categories, including Ladies’ Watch, Men’s Watch, Jewellery, Chronograph, and so forth. In total, there are 12 different categories, with six pre-selected watches competing in each category and a total of 16 awards given.
Winners are selected by a special jury made up of members of the watchmaking industry, journalists and collectors and the prizes are awarded at a star-studded gala event. Given the exclusivity of the competition, it is considered a big deal just to be selected, let alone to be awarded one of the highly coveted prizes. This year, however, BULGARI managed to do both. Twice.
Firstly, the BULGARI Octo Finissimo Automatic was awarded the Men’s Watch Prize. This prize recognises the best watch competing in the Men’s watch category, which itself is made up of the pre-selected best men’s watches of 2017. Watches in this category may comprise at most two of the following indications: date, power reserve, classic moon phase, digital or retrograde time display.
Secondly, the BULGARI Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton was awarded the Tourbillon & Escapement Watch Prize. This category was made up of six mechanical watches comprising at least one tourbillon and/or a special escapement and as you can imagine, the competition was again very fierce.
The GPHG awards are the highest level of industry recognition a watchmaking brand can receive, and both of these accolades further cement BULGARI’S status as an innovative watchmaker that blends technical excellence with avant garde designs.
